Peter Gray Fantasy Hair Art - 2012

This Peter Gray hair looks like a glorious gorgeous fur collar. A  richly textured dark brown graduates to flaming red, kind of ’30s but ultra-modern, and is one of three extraordinary photos designed for L’Oréal Professionnelle in Paris which can be seen here, along with some more extraordinary Peter Gray inspirations in his Fantasy Hair Art album  – go to WorldGreats, Peter Gray, on www.helen oppenheim.com

Why?

Posted by on Oct 30, 2013 in Helen's Blog | 0 comments

Why?

Love Pinterest. So many fab photos, so many with fantastic fab hair.  But people and especially hairdressers aren’t identifying their work  properly so the best photos get pinned and re-pinned, then re-pinned again –  and no one knows who did the hair or any information, other than the current re-pinner.  Why?  It takes 2 seconds to i.d. photos like a pro.   I’d publish many of the hair photos I see on Pinterest, as I am sure others would, but cannot because there is no clue who did them. Why?

For more Why’s, type Why? into the Search Box, top right.

1979.  Ritz Wrapz by Antonio da Costa Rocha, La Coupe.  Long hair was wrapped with ritzy wired fabrics. Big success for La Coupe, who offered them in gold, silver, black, white, red, pink, blue, green, yellow and more.  Vogue did an article on this original idea, giving detailed instructions how-to, another version made a WWD cover. For more, go to HairThen, La Coupe, 70s, Ritz Wrapz on www.helenoppenheim.com

Deborah Turbeville – 1932-2013

Deborah Turbeville - 1932-2013

Photo:© Deborah Turbeville

Deborah Turbeville, a famous Fashion Photographer I always admired tremendously for her unique haunting images passed away yesterday. RIP, Deborah Turbeville.  Her most famous photographs were from the 1975 Vogue swimsuit series with Diana Vreeland.  I loved what the New York Times calls “her dreamlike, melancholy beautiful images  … often dark, brooding with a sensual strangeness … in faded colors or sepia tones.”  Here is one of her manipulated , distressed images, with hair by Edward Tricomi, Warren-Tricomi Salons.  He worked with her on most of her famous images and her many books.    For two more Turbeville’s go to WorldGreats, Edward Tricomi on www.helenoppenheim.com

Intercoiffure Fall Atelier - 2013

Photo: © Helen Oppenheim

Vivienne Macinder, Fashion Director for Intercoiffure America/Canada presented her Neo Deco Collection at the Fall Atelier for 2013.  The stunning and witty performance included big glam very feminine yet wearable hair with plenty of action but not too much, as in this photo.  Her Liberated Women were  ’20s and ’70s-inspired, some with bandeaus, abstract boyish chops and an Audrey Hepburn.  Bravo Vivienne, a class act all the way.

Odile Gilbert, one of the greatest living editorial hairdressers of our time, presented another class act, saying about two words, but she didn’t need to say more as she enthralled  with some high up to there concoctions,  her famous hair hat and more, receiving two standing ovations.  For more talents and inspiration showing during the weekend  at the Waldorf Astoria, Click here for three new albums

Vidal Sassoon HighHair Crimp Updo - 1980

Photos: © Lorraine Sylvestre … Collage by helenoppenheim.com

Sassooning for Evening was for dreamy nights out in 1980, and this cloud-like HighHair vision by Avram, Vidal Sassoon, NY was pure romance.  There is no teasing  A rat or soft, lightweight form was pinned inside the crimped hair on the heavier side to give that flattering, pretty height. The full photo can be seen on the bottom left, and another version with hair  half up/half down by Graham Wren is bottom center. For more info, how-to’s and other versions, some in color, go to HairThen, Vidal Sassoon, HighHair on www.helenoppenheim.com
