World Cup Hair Alert!  Watch out for Neymar, the Brazilian soccer star, as FIFA”s World Cup fever builds. The event about half the world will watch starts, in Brazil, on June 12 and the final is July 13. Sexy 22 year old Neymar is hair obsessed – check out all the styles and colors here and his videos on YouTube.  He’s has over 10 million Twitter followers, over 4 million on Instagram (according to the Wall Street Journal Magazine, Sunday, May 31st issue, where he is on the cover looking more drop-dead gorgeous than in most of these photos!) The new hair and soccer sensation, full name Neymar da Silva Junior, is now playing for Barcelona and is being compared to Pelé and Cristiana Ronaldo, who took one of the photos here (thanks to many on Google for the others.) Witty Helmut Newton – 1973

One of the witty photos Helmut Newton photographed in 1973 for the one and only late-lamented British Magazine, Nova, the magazine that inspired me for decades. I wrote the press release and bio for his great 1984 book, “World Without Men” and this is one of the photos I had to caption. (He writes about many of his photos in his book, and some of what he says I quote under some of the photos.)   For more on Helmut Newton, click here:

Why?

WHY? Wigs
Why does anyone let anyone wear a wig that looks like a wig?   Unless it is a blue or colored wig for fun. Seriously, I see so many wigs on the street that are painful to look at. Many are for religious reasons, some for medical ones. Men who wear wigs just must find the right wig, Not one obviously a wig. For one thing, stay away from a style with a part, guys. Who is selling these people these dreadful wigs? There is no excuse, even less expensive wigs can look natural, especially with a good hair shape or cut.  No one need look like they are wearing a wig, not now. Not unless they want to.  For more Why’s on this website, click:

Vidal Sassoon’s $Million Jeans Launch – 1980

33 years after this photo was taken at the 1980 Canadian Launch of the Vidal Sassoon Jeans along with their Hair Care product line in Canada, Peter Niedan, the security guard in the photo, made a Comment under this photo on the website.  “Egads, he said, “that was me so many years ago!”  And he has given me all kinds of info I have posted under this photo on the website on what went on behind the scenes.

Amazing. I didn’t actually hire him myself but he was my idea, after 2 weeks of sleepless nights as PR and Creative Director of Vidal Sassoon Salons USA and Canada, and the person in charge of the PR for the launches, I had this brilliant idea of having the Vidal Sassoon logo spelled out in diamonds, by DeBeers, for the Million $ Dollar Jeans.  I had a security guards hired, with guns, for protection – one for the Toronto launch, as here, and one for the Montreal launch.  For more on the $Million Jeans and the Canadian Launch, click:

Rachel’s Saga Part 111 by John Sahag – 1997

1997. John Sahag’s Part 111 of Rachel’s Saga never made it to a photo studio and, as far as I know, was never released because these were my last photos with John Sahag and I left shortly after. Pity, the haircut, color and style are all magnificent. And wouldn’t have happened had Rachel not gone in that swimming pool full of chlorine without protecting her hair color.  In this album, Sahag worked with the color that was left over after all the problems and used it for a very interesting finished look. He liked odd.

For how-to “very well engineered details” see and read what is in the whole album, click:  And check out Rachel Part 1 and Part 11 Albums for full story what to do if you want to know Sahag’s full solution for hair gone green in a swimming pool full of chlorine.

Grace Jones by Antonio Lopez – 70s

I always loved Antonio Lopez (1943 – 1987.) His fashion illustrations inspired me, and I always loved this illustration of model/singer/actress Grace Jones with her hair which rises up to there, in colors which pre-date, by decades, the similar hair colors and looks we see today.

Antonio worked from life, and some of his best work, all of which has stood the test of time, was of Jessica Lange, Jerry Hall, Pat Cleveland, Tina Chow and Grace Jones, as seen here in the 70s, in Paris. They were subject of a 1982 book I adore, Antonio’s Girls (Congreve Publishing, Text Christopher Hemphill. )

Antonio Lopez discovered Grace Jones in Paris, while both were dancing with others, she went on to fame as much for her adrogynous amazing look and hairstyles as for modeling or her music – and she was in movies like the 1985 James Bond movie, A View to Kill as May Day.
