Thank You's And Memories - 1978-1985

Card Collage by helenoppenheim.com

I just found these thank you cards from various people I worked with from 1978 to 1985. Memories.

Top Left: The Perfecto! Gracias! card came with some earrings from Cartier in 1978.   I had just produced a show for La Coupe in Barcelona, Spain, in front of over 2,0000 people and we were a huge success. Charles Booth was very happy.

Top Right: This card came from John Sahag. For Christmas 1985. It wasn’t alas forever. But the sentiment was beautiful. And it came with a magnum bottle of Dom Pérignon.

Bottom Left: This card came with a huge bouquet of flowers so not his signature.  Vidal Sassoon had just seen my first Collection I had produced in 1979 – Soft Cubism.

Bottom Right: Memo from George Shaw, publicist and philanthropist who worked to help promote everything Vidal Sassoon when I worked there as PR and Creative Director of the Vidal Sassoon Salons USA and Canada.

More to come …

John Sahag Cool Pin Idea - 1997

How cool is this?  Here is John Sahag backstage at a fashion show wearing pants with strategic holes so he could place pins he’d be needing easily and fast as he prepared for the show.  Only the Legendary Sahag could come up with this solution to an access problem!

John Sahag Ponytail Extravaganza – 1997

The legendary John Sahag somtimes sketched his hair ideas before a fashion show. As he did here for the Gen Art NY Fashion Week Show for Fall 1997. And look at the result of the bottom sketch! Not just a ponytail!

Hair was designed with a lot of action – for one designer, a ponytail extravaganza!  This show was a “Tour de Force” for John Sahag, always an original, and featured 8 up and coming fashion designers who each designed 10 outfits. Sahag and his Workshop Team created 8 different – and unique – hair looks, one for each designer. It’s worth a click to see the hair. At the end of the album, some of what went on behind the scenes, click here:

The hair, described by Edward Tricomi backstage at the Douglas Hannant Fall 2012 New York Fashion Week Show was “40s in a modern way, reminiscent of Rosie the Riveter.”   This must be what everyone wants. Waves cascading down the back. the front rolled back and up. For more, click here

Vidal Sassoon HighHair for Men - 1980

Photo: © Deborah Samuel

This 1980 HighHair for Men photo with hair by Helen Chudoba of Vidal Sassoon in Toronto has been lost for over 30 years.   Deborah Samuel, the photographer, now living in New Mexico, found it, after a search taking months, sent it to Helen in Toronto who sent it to me in NYC.

Inspired by the famous Vidal Sassoon HighHair for Women Collection, the romantic hero is in this photo is Ross Marks whose waves and curls with height and volume rose above it all. For more on this and more HighHair, click here:
