Hot Trend Alert! Metallic Hair Tattoos – 2015

Photo: Scünci

Kylie Jenner is setting a trend for the holiday season. And after. Temporary metallic hair tattoos,  like the jewelry-inspired temporary tattoos for bods.  Just apply with a damp towel or cotton ball, peel the paper and let your hair flash with a strategically-placed glimmering design on one side or wherever.   Shampoo and try another. On straight hair.

The 18 year old was spotted wearing a gold arrow design by Scünci who call them – “temporary tats for tresses” and sell a pack, each with two sheets of designs, for $4.99 at Target, Ulta, Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid.   Newer than jewelry in the hair, and much more fun than a headband, the tats are the accessory du jour.

Chic Hair Look Inspired by Soft Cubism – 1979

Chic Hair Look Inspired by Soft Cubism – 1979

Photo: © Lorraine Sylvestre

From Vidal Sassoon’s 1979 Soft Cubism collection, this Sassooning for Evening chic look by Avram of Vidal Sassoon. NY, was inspired by the graphics of cubism.  The snake charmer of black plexi waves diagonally through the hair. A veil tilts over one eye, at a rakish angle, asymmetrically. Rhinestones add glimmer and glitter. The glamorous hair is rolled under and forward to frame and flatter the face with an asymmetric rolled under fringe slanting up an don the forehead ending in a futuristic feather affect. The Monocle Fashion Fad – ’60s

The Monocle Fashion Fad – '60s

Collage by helenoppenheim.com (from Contacts)

“Monocles – or should they be called MODacles?” said Women’s Wear Daily in a ’60s article on “what the young-with-its are starting to favor in Montreal.”   The photos here, which I produced and did PR for, are from contacts but you can get the idea. Walter F. (Wally) Baril, VP of R. F. Baril, a 40 year old Montreal firm with three optician retail stores at the time, felt it was a “logical return to the once popular monocle, formerly worn by fops of a bygone era.”  The monocles came in colored rims –   leather-covered, snakeskin, or fur, or could be a fabric to match a dress. They came boxed in three different colors and with a half a dozen ribbon changes. A favorite was one rimmed in black and white stripes (top right.)  It just takes a little practice to wear a monocle but the fashion impact would be worth it. What fun?  Anyone want to start the fashion fad for the 21st Century?

Dressy Double Level Ponytail by John Sahag – 1995

Photo: Unknown

Never seen before photo of interesting double level ponytail, at two levels, strategically caught in three places for a dressy finish, by the legendary John Sahag.  Photographed at a fashion show for which he did the hair at The United Nations, in 1995.   Sahag was ever inventive, even with a ponytail. Why do one ponytail when you can do two? And he has done a sketch with four! To see, click HERE

Eva Salvail, Bald Model With Tattoo On Scalp – '90s

Photos by Unknowns

In the ’90s, Eva Salvail was a hot model, shocking everyone with her head shaved bald and a Chinese dragon tattooed on her scalp. The French-Canadian model walked the runways for top European fashion designers, first discovered by Jean-Paul Gaultier. And appeared in movies, including- Pret-a-Porter (1994) … Unzipped (1995) .. The Fifth Element I1997.) In 1995 or 1996, she was modeling in a fashion show at The United Nations for which the legendary John Sahag did the hair, and I was photographed (bottom right) with Eva – who had some hair at the time. Now she is also known as DJ Evalicious, with her head shaved bald, or hair dyed pink or blonde, and you might see her in the booths of hot clubs in New York, Miami, Chicago or LA.
