HighHair 1980
Hair Half Up/Half Down
Sassooning for Evening

For romantic, dreamy nights out, Graham Wren of Vidal Sassoon, NY
presented HighHair, half up and half down.

There is no teasing.  A rat or soft, lightweight wire form is molded into a
triangular shape 3″ at the highest point, and pinned inside the hair to give
that height.  Rats can be bought from five and dime stores, department or
beauty supply stores, or they can be made.

Here’s how to do your own version:
Part hair ear to ear. Side part front hair.  Comb back hair down,
pageboy ends.  Leaving out 1″ of hair all around the hairline,
wave rest for a cloud-like effect by reversing curling iron for each wave.
(Today, this could also be done with a crimping machine.)
Pin in form. place waved hair back and up, like a French Twist,
secure with pins.  Now, wave and pull back the 1″ of front hair to
lay over the twists on both sides. Tuck ends in with a tail comb.

Avram, an Art Director at Vidal Sassoon, created the dress and the background
for this photo using Opalescent cellophane.

1 Raphael 1971

Femme Fatale

“A woman should be a woman and I want to make her more woman, I love women and
know how to make them more so,” said Raphael when he opened Raphael, his Montreal
Salon in 1971.

Here is the first look of his Femme Fatale Collection which he offered as “the answer
to those ratty tatty growing-out layered looks” everyone had at the time.

Featured were bobbed hairstyles, all one length, with the front left longer from the crown
and variations of the one cut with flicks flattering the face, so new at the time  that the
photos received a ton of International publicity.

Here is the first very simple version.  Other versions follow, and note there is different
text under each photo.

THE P-P-PUFF – Danielle

The big new silhouette from Vidal Sassoon Salons USA in 1981 was injected with a healthy dose
of fresh…air.  Very new then, a very different and high fashion direction for Vidal Sassoon.

The look was voluminous, the effect airy, fresh, very natural, casual, with carefully cut-up hair
p-p-puffing…flicking and flirting around the silhouette, framing the face, in soft, flattering ways.
It was big. And soft. And sexy.

For more on The P-P-Puff see under each photo.

Short HighHair

1.  Short hair with a flirty kiss curl.
The longest part of the haircut is above the front hairline, where a graceful, fan-like band of weight gives height, for HairHair. We will show you in the next photo how to make this short hair long, in a flash.

1.  The Queue can make short hair look long in a flash.

Here, model Lynn is adding The Queue to her short hair in surely the most beautiful photo of its kind, by Lorraine Sylvestre.

The all-in one hair ornament, invented by Avram of Vidal Sassoon in 1980, included a brushed gold bow covering a ponytail,
clipped onto the hair and transformed short hair to long in one simple movement.

3. Long Romantic HighHair
This look answers the age-old question – how to dress up short hair for evening, in a flash. Her hair was permed (this was 1980!) by Edward Moore, using La Maur Apple Pectin. The Queue was permed with texture to match by Liz Sims, and “air neutralized” for 24 hours, then rinsed and conditioned with Vidal Sassoon’s Treatment Products.
