John Sahag called his staff “his kids.” Here are some of them who were there when I was there in the 90s. With apologies to others for whom I don’t have photos.
Top Collage, 1996, top left to right: Federico on one of those very late nights preparing hair for a fashion show. (All staff – seniors, assistants, colorists – sometimes worked to 3.30 am preparing hairpieces for shows.) Tamara and Deedra with crimps, top center. Colorist Deborah with tiara, with hair by Mayumi during a Creative Evening. Bottom left, Gabriel preparing hair; the only one on this collage still working at Sahag. Rafael with model and assistant. (I had a lot of different backgrounds like this red one at the ready for photos.) Baron, John’s dog, who had his second home at the salon. Photos by Helen Oppenheim.
Bottom Group Left, after a Creative Evening, 1997. Top left to right: Jennifer, Dario, model, Helen, Lillo, model, model, Albert. Bottom, Santino with his colorful model. Photo by John Sahag.
Bottom Group Right, 1996, I accepted an award for John Sahag, who was in Paris doing the hair for an Issey Miyake show. Some of the staff attended the dinner. Back row: Kimberly, Helen, Jeanne Braa (of Paul Mitchell), Karmela (still doing clients at Sahag), Deborah. Front row, Angus Mitchell (co-owner Paul Mitchell.) Photo by Federico Lupo.
Some of the staff are still making shapes and doing beautiful hair at The Workshop on Madison Avenue.

Good Afternoon Helen,
Trusting you’re well… just wishing to send my regards and offer my support to you, and to all the work it must have taken to compile these historical record(s), most impressive indeed. Recently I received some web-sites from a friend that seem to be yours…I look forward to seeing them and what they offer. Please enjoy your weekend, and I would like to catch up with you at a later date. Cheers !
Kind Regards, neil d.
Thank you Neil. so you are the Rad man mentioned in a comment below? I didn’t realize you actually worked
at Sahag when we spoke on Facebook. When?
Gina. I didn’t know Neil Dickson//Dixon either at La Coupe or John Sahag.
I don’t think he was there when I was there, and these photos are of staff
with whom I personally worked during the years I was there. I have asked
someone at Sahag now and, if they know, i will get back to you.
What ever happened to Neil Dickson/Dixon who styled at John Sahag after La Coupe? He was so rad. So great.
Let me know. I’ll Share it. Great evening.
I love our photo together! I’m going to put that on my facebook!
