It was the men who set a trend at the 96th Oscars for 2024, some dazzling sparklers sparkled. Brooches on the lapels of some elegant males made The Fashion Statement at these Academy Awards. Both men and women wore red pins to support Artists4Ceasefire, who are calling for an immediate and permanent cease-fire in the Israeli-Hamas war. The silent protest with these pins made a clearer political statement than words.
Top Row, left to right: Mark Ruffalo of “Poor Things” made a double statement – the red pin and a sparkling brooch on his Givenchy tux … Billy Eilish, who won an Oscar wit her brother for Best Original Song in Barbie’s “What Was I Made For?” wore the red pin on her Chanel black blazer … Sir Ben Kingsley wore a sparkler pin on his Dolce & Gabbana suit … Cillian Murphy, who won the award for Best Actor for his role in “Oppenheimer,” wore a Sauvereign gem brooch on his Vesace tux, his bow tie a different shape to classic bow ties.
Bottom Row: Robert Downey, Jr. added an Elsa Peretti brooch with a diamond-encrusted stem on his Saint Laurent suit. He won the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in “Oppenheimer” … Jeffrey Wright, nominated for his role in “American Fiction” wore a Giorgio Armani tux with a Chaumet brooch … Ke Huy Quan added a Cartier brooch on his Giorgio Armani suit … Writer-Director, Cord Jefferson, who won the Best Adapted Screenplay Award for “American Fiction,” wore a red flower pin on his Zegna lapel. And these are just some of the brooches worn by men. The women played it safe for the most part and I didn’t see one interesting hairstyle on any of the women, who set no trends
