Olympic Hair History – 1976

Photo: Lorraine Sylvestre

Olympic and hair history is here. Montreal’s controversial, futuristic Olympic Stadium was in the background and the model wore the 1976 T-shirt for the Games of the XXst Olympiad. This photo, which was published in US Vogue, a huge achievement, possible at the time, was part of the famous La Coupe Hair Olympics Collection produced early in 1976 for maximum impact, released to the press in good time to take advantage of the Olympic coverage.  I loved producing hair collections with themes, and this was one of the most successful.    This hair, by La Coupe’s Peter Green, made a point, which followed the natural growth of the hairline with very fine layering, so it would lay flat at all times, and very fine graduation at the back left the hair heavy behind the ears. Of course, one has to have the natural point to get the point!  To see more versions of this and other styles of the era from the collection, click HERE
