ANECDOTE:  Actually, the diamonds were attached to just a pocket.
I had to travel by train with the pocket of diamonds from Toronto to Montreal because
there was an air strike on at the time.  I remember a very experienced
member of the press being concerned for me that I was traveling with the diamonds
and no security.

Vidal Sassoon Designer Jeans and Tops

The Vidal Sassoon women’s jeans featured The Carrot Leg – a new shape in 1980,
like a baggie, no pleats, tapered at the ankle – which is why there’s a paper carrot top left,
and why we included an orange paper carrot with the press release.

Colors included putty, slate, butternut, quail and shell pink, fountain blue, and
quartz lilac, pearl, water lilly – great colors for then! Of course, there was also
blue denim.

The jeans manufactured by Skirt Togs in Montreal for Vidal Sassoon Canada Ltd.
were almost as huge a success as the hair care products after the launch, and one
of them, can’t remember which now, shot up to No. 2 in their category in Canada.

NOTE:  Of course, Vidal Sassoon Jeans were later discontinued because manufacturing
jeans were not the area of expertise for a hair  product company.

ANECDOTE: The reason Vidal Sassoon manufactured his own designer jeans was
because everyone at Vidal Sassoon was receiving many requests per day for
jeans.  Why?  Well, a major jeans company at the time was called Sasson (with one o)
and everyone thought that was us, so I guess the Powers That Be saw an opportunity.

Sassooning – The Shampooing

Vidal Sassoon’s simple three-step hair care regimen was launched in Canada
September 1980.  There was Cleanse, with Shampoo, Condition with Protein Hair
Re-Moisturizing Creme, Seal & Protect with Finishing Rinse.

The famous products, only some mentioned and shown here, were handsomely packaged
in brown and silver, and were a big success in the US, the UK, Europe, Asia and South America.
As Vidal Sassoon said: “If you don’t look good, we don’t look good.”

Gold Lamé Rags - 1980

THE P-P-PUFF/Rags to Riches – Kay

These glamorous gold standard rags are hand-made by Avram and Vidal Sassoon staff and were
made of Gold Lamé, pretty enough to walk around the home in and even to party in.

We had made a collection – in animal and camouflage prints – and we were published in a
lot of major magazines like  Bazaar (a full page), Vogue, New York, even Playbill Magazine, as well
as The New York Sunday Times, the Daily Mail in the UK, major newspapers across the
US and all the hair magazines world-wide, including a cover in Peluquerias Magazine of
Spain (see Photo No. 10 below this one.)

The “rags” had wire and foam inside for an easier set.  I had wanted Sassoon to manufacture
the idea and sell the rags since we got such massive publicity for them in all the best magazines
but that didn’t happen.
