Short Soft Sahag Hair, No Hard Edges – 1985
This short soft hair cut is so Sahag. It was done in 1985. And is just as wonderful today as it was then. It has no hard edges, and is all perfectly harmonious, as a short or any haircut should be. From a 12 page editorial in American Vogue, all with hair by the legendary John Sahag and, later in the year, Vogue published this look in black and white with more great Sahags in an article on the opening of his first John Sahag Workshop, in October of that year. (Sahag always wanted to “score” so hats and makeup stories didn’t faze him! He just came up with amazing ideas, like this.) This was the first of the 4 page editorial photographed by Irvin Penn for “The Color Report” with makeup by Kevyn Aucoin, other pages featured more of Cindy, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. CommentDivine Helmut Newton – 1974
Iconic Fashion photo by Helmut Newton for American Vogue, 1974. Two girls dancing in Maui, Hawaii. I always loved this photo. Everything about it. Divine perfection.
“Fashion pictures rarely have any logic. Each one is a moment without a beginning or an end,” said Helmut Newton. He warns: “You mustn’t take my pictures too seriously. Don’t look for a message, because there isn’t one.” More from Helmut Newton’s 1984 provocative thriller of a book, Women Without Men, click
