Hair Legend Lluis Llongueras Dies – 2023
The legendary Lluis Llongueras passed away in Barcelona on May 29, 2023 after a long illness. He was 87 years old. Condolences to his family for the loss of a very special man. So many memories.
The Catalan phenomenon was the most famous hairdresser ever in Spain, building an empire with so many salons and centers bearing his name, the numbers vary from 50 salons in Spain, to 70, and 120 salons and centers world wide.
He Founded and was Director of the monthly Peluquerias Magazine from 1969 to 2022. I was US Correspondent for the hair art magazine like no other in the whole world from 1982 to 2022. At various times, the magazine with my columns and those of Correspondents in Paris, London, Italy, Australia, was published in Argentina, Russia, Ukraine, China, South Korea and I was translated in each language.
Not only was he a pioneering hairdresser, often avant-garde and trend-setting, an inspiration to hairdressers all over the world, he was also an entrepreneur, a sculptor, photographer, painter, poet, and author – with an impressive number of exhibitions and books for each talent.
Salvador Dali was his client for 30 years, and Llongueras knew how to make that mustache stand up. In 1979, he did the Guinness wig in the Mae West hall at Dali’s Museum in Figuras and when Dali died, he published a book – “My particular Dali – an homage to a genius and friend. He always made me laugh. Witness photos in this memoriam homage collage of me with him in London, Miami, New York and photos I took of him in his Barcelona studio with his sculptures.
CommentFlowers Printed On Hair – 2021
“The Favorite Collection” created by hair artist Alexis Ferrer of Barcelona, a long time member of the Wella Professionals Global Team, spotlights flowers printed on the hair in intricate patterns, as in this photo, one of an extraordinary collection published in Issue #579 of Peluquerias Magazine (See more versions on Instagram @HelenOppenheim)
Now, new technology, techniques combined with knowledge of the craft, have made it possible to recreate flowers in beautiful patterns printed on the hair, just as couturiers created flowers and animals on fabrics, dresses, walls and tapestries in past eras, especially the XVIII Century. Ferrer has said he was “influenced by Modernism, Cubism, Surrealism and a world of infinite possibilities for the future has opened up.

There’s always a chance of a cover – and full pages for your great photos – for anyone in this International hair art fashion magazine like no other – if if if. Just ask. Dressed in Pearls – ’90s
Love all the pearls in this photo with hair by Antonio Bellver of Barcelona. The photo got a full page in a two page article I did for American Salon Magazine in the ’90s. Not sure about the cigarette but I guess it goes with the ’20s kiss curl hair and the fashion feel of the photo. (FYI – Bellver now lives and works in Mexico City.)

COVER PELUQUERIAS MAGAZINE – JUNE 2014
Great updo and fashions for the June 2014 Peluquerias Magazine. The hair here, by Raffel Pages of Barcelona, Spain, is different, not copying anyone, and wearable at the same time. Ah, if only more hairdressers would work out how to do this! Fab feather fashions.
How to do it. Long hair was made into a small tail at the crown, with the hair pulled very tight. Foam was used for padding at the top which was scrolled into a horizontal loop held in the center, which was then sprayed.
