Cauliflower Head @ Met Camp – 2019
How about wearing this vegetable jewel of a hat on your head? This is the cauliflower headpiece at the Met Fifth Avenue Camp: Notes on Fashion Exhibition, from May 9 to September 8, 2019, in Gallery 999. It is by Deirdre Hawken, 2013, and is in shades of dark green, light green, and yellow silk satin and chiffon with synthetic pearl beads, held in place with black elastic. “We are experiencing a resurgence of camp,” said Andrew Boulton, curator extraordinaire for the Costume Institute, who worked closely with Condé Nast’s Anna Wintour on the exhibition, which “examines how the elements of irony, humor, parody, pastiche, artifice, theatricality, and exaggeration are expressed in fashion.” 23 more amazing photos of some amazing camp fashions on Helen Oppenheim’s Facebook Biz Buzz
