Ginger Rogers Inspired Dancing Hair – 1986
Dancing Hair, the iconic 1986 La Coupe Collection, was inspired by Ginger Rogers dancing with Fred Astaire in the famously romantic 1935 movie, “Top Hat.” This hair by the King of Chic Chignons, Antonio da Costa Rocha, couldn’t be more elegant, more romantic or more flattering. It’s not just a braid wrapped around the head. To see more versions and how to do it, click here:

CommentGlam Chic Chignon with Crystals – 2011
This “fearlessly” glamorous chic chignon, different from every angle, has a lot going on – but it all works. Inspired by Hollywood movies (Anne Baxter in “All About Eve” and Bette Davis in “Dark Victory”) Peter Gray created this look for the Fall 2011 NY Fashion Week Show by red-carpet designers, Badgley Mischka. The off-center, spiral-rolled chignon resting low on the nape has a rope twist on the opposite side, and a long strip of crystals placed over the diagonal part. CommentChignon With Beads @ Carolina Herrera – 2010
As New York Fashion Week nears for Spring 2015 (September 4th to 11th) here’s a look-back to Spring 2010. With hope and a prayer there will be more ideas like this, and not too many ponytails and nothing hair! This modern chic chignon had bronze, gold or silver beads embedded by Orlando Pita for Carolina Herrera’s New York Fashion Week show that year. The beads, on a headband, showed through easy-going, gently-twisted, tucked-under knots of hair resting elegantly on napes. The hair wasn’t stiff, structured, or too perfect and was exquisite. CommentNaughty Knottie. A Chic Chignon – 1978
This photo of an asymmetric knotted chignon was published in US Vogue, September, 1978. One naughty knottie was higher than the other and wisps flirted on the forehead.
Antonio da Costa Rocha of La Coupe, who created this unique chic chignon, had good looks, great manners, charm and his talent made him the darling of New York Society Ladies, as well as a famous beauty editor or two, and a few famous movie stars …
