Vidal Sassoon’s HighHair Updo – 1980
This is Tom Principe’s asymmetric up version from the romantic, dreamy and innovative HighHair Collection created in 1980 at the Vidal Sassoon NY Salon.
There was no teasing, two rats were placed inside the hair, which could be worn as high or low as one liked, asymmetric or simply going up high, as here. For more on this, including an Anecdote and more HighHair inspiration from the famous collection, click here

CommentVidal Sassoon’s HighHair, Mimi – 1980
Do you know your hair history? Soft waves and curls rose above it all for cloud-like, romantic, dreamy looks in this HighHair version by A. Vernon Keach, Vidal Sassoon NY, in 1980.
“Hair will be high on top for the 80s,” predicted Vidal Sassoon, and it was. Hair had not been high for an era and HighHair, a new direction for Sassoon, influenced hairstyles world-wide in the 80s and beyond. Months of experimentation went into this Collection photographed with a surreal theme. The innovative cuts and perms were done with the clients heads upside down. There was not teasing. I invented the name HighHair, later much copied!

CommentVidal Sassoon HighHair Illusion – 1980
This HighHair style was part of Sassooning for Evening conceived to be a totally new direction for Vidal Sassoon in 1980!!!
The illusion of HighHair, the height of style, was achieved by pulling the model’s own hair through the center of a matching false hair-covered ornament place high on top of the head – made by Avram, who also made the cloud cube as part of the surreal/cloud theme of the collection.
