“This man-woman ambiguity has always fascinated me,” wrote Helmut Newton about this famous 1979 photograph for French Vogue, just one of the extraordinary photos in his 1984 book, “Women Without Men.” Newton often photographed men and women together, only the men are women dressed up as men. “The illusion must be as perfect as possible, to try and confuse the reader,” the controversial photographer said at the time. Gia By Sahag French Vogue Cover – 1980

This is the famous model Gia Carangi on the cover of the August 1980 issue of French Vogue. Hair by the legendary John Sahag, John Sahag Workshop. Giorgio Armani also used this image in promotional ads in Vogue Italia and American Vogue. The tragic life of Gia was portrayed by Angelina Jolie in a made for TV motion picture, and she won the Best Actress Award at the Golden Globes for her performance.
