Favorite Brooches On Holiday Hair – 2017

Photo: Matthew Holler

It’s holiday time, and time to dress hair. Do as Cheyanne Clark does. She is obsessed with hair accessories and pins her own decorative brooches to her hair, as here on this naturally curly textured hair which was redefined with a 1″ curling iron, each curl pinned and cooled, a low ponytail at the back and her favorite brooch added. She also likes to add her earrings as well as brooches sometimes, all one one head.  This is one of three fab looks published in my Peluquerias Magazine December 2017 column with a full page. You can find her on Instagram @cheyanne_hair as I did, also on www. CheyanneClark.com/

Curly Curls, Coin Hair Jewelry – 2011

Curly Curls, Coin Hair Jewelry - 2011

Photo: © Helen Oppenheim

Curly curls cascaded with pure gold coin hair jewelry added to one side, on bobby pins. A great idea anyone could copy.   The hair was by Peter Gray at the Badgley Mischka Spring 2011 New York Fashion Week show which was inspired by the 1988 movie “White Mischief” about wealthy decadent colonial ladies with a proper veneer and smoldering sensuality.

This hair was pretty, flattering, and looked good from all angles, including front view!!!!!   For more versions, click here:

Vidal Sassoon Lost Photo – 1979

Memoribilia. This image is from a poor quality laser copy.  It is from the first shoot I did at Vidal Sassoon, in 1979.  The hair featured a short cut and an interesting, exciting rhinestone visor for nights out, created by Avram.  (There were more photos of the hair but the quality of the copies  I  have are too poor to reproduce.)  The photograph was by Tseng Kwong Chi  (1950 – 1990) before he was famous.  I remember we worked on the lighting for about 5 hours before we did a shot!  He went on to become very famous, and still is today, even with a short 10 year career,  published in all the major magazines and his self-portrait series, East Meets West, is in art galleries.   Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Jean-Michael Basquiat, Madonna and Grace Jones are just a few of the famous he photographed.  I had worked with him earlier, in Canada, when he has known as Joseph Tseng, but that’s another story … For more on the photographer, click http://www.tsengkwongchi.com/bio.html

Go for the Gold with a Gold Snood – 1987

Red Carpet Hair idea - a Gold Snood

Photo: © Geoffrey Hargrave Thomas

Go for the Gold with this hair accessory, a gold snood.  Dress up for evening, also a great idea for the Oscar Red Carpet.   In 1987, Kim Lepine of La Coupe added a gold snood to a mid-parted drape chignon for golden nights.  If there is not enough hair and the hair is long enough, the snood could be stuffed with matching false hair, a silk scarf or even pantyhose for the same effect.  Hide all under a layer of hair.  “For flattering proportions – play.”  Click for more here

Hair: Kim Lepine, La Coupe NY/Montreal .. Makeup: Honey Twigg … Fashion Styling: Arianne Phillips … Ballgown: Cathy Hardwick … Earrings: Jean Hoffman – Jana Starr … Snood: Andrew Veneto/Mr. Vito … Location: The Palace Theatre in Waterbury, Connecticut … Model: Alayne/Zoli … Photos: Geoffrey Hargrave Thomas.
