Marcel Waves Return, Again – 2023
Hair Trend Alert – The New York Times published “Put a Crimp in It” article by Ruth La Ferla in the Style Section, April 18, 2023; Subheading – “Rihanna, Halle Berry and Zendaya are just a few of the high wattage stars to have revisited the Marcel wave.”
Yes, Waving Beauties with Marcel Waves are returning as salons and people are enjoying the good life again. The fashion forward are fed up with beachy waves and nothing hair. More groomed and interesting hair has started to appear on fashionable heads walking out of salons now, inspired by past eras like the Twenties and Thirties, again.
Photos here from a ‘70s HairThen album in my Archives which were inspired by past eras and updated then, still modern today, plus some photos I have taken backstage at New York Fashion Weeks when the hair was more groomed.

The Rage Now: Barrettes Scattered On Hair – 1993
Hair Trend Alert. The rage now is something anyone can do. Easy Peasy. Just scatter a few barrettes on the hair. This glamorous pageboy with rhinestone barrettes was by Charles Booth at La Coupe’s Creative Evening on Madison Avenue, New York, in 1993. But the look is as modern today as it was way back then. The idea works best on long hair but can also glam up short hair too. To see more from the famous Creative Evening, which ended at 2.30 am and was organized and produced by Helen Oppenheim,

Comment’60s Space-Age Hair Orbits Again – 2016
TREND ALERT. Gucci have a similar style to this in their current ad campaign. I first posted on the trend in early in 2015. Which leads me to think something similar to this very popular hair shape from the late ’60s could well return. This version was by Charles Booth, of La Coupe in 1969. We called it The Orbit and it was inspired by the 1969 US Landing on on the Moon. Face on, the space-age hair style was just a cap of hair, with a heavy round smooth fringe rising up to a soft point in the middle of the forehead. It was cut right from the crown and the hair orbited all around. The cap graduated to a long, wide “V’ on both sides. For more, an anecdote, another version, click HERE

CommentHot Trend Alert! Metallic Hair Tattoos – 2015
Kylie Jenner is setting a trend for the holiday season. And after. Temporary metallic hair tattoos, like the jewelry-inspired temporary tattoos for bods. Just apply with a damp towel or cotton ball, peel the paper and let your hair flash with a strategically-placed glimmering design on one side or wherever. Shampoo and try another. On straight hair.
The 18 year old was spotted wearing a gold arrow design by Scünci who call them – “temporary tats for tresses” and sell a pack, each with two sheets of designs, for $4.99 at Target, Ulta, Walmart, Walgreens, Rite Aid. Newer than jewelry in the hair, and much more fun than a headband, the tats are the accessory du jour.
