Helen At Her Vidal Sassoon Office – 1981
Here I am in my messy Vidal Sassoon office in the Galleria Building on 57th Street, New York, in 1981. The suite of offices had beige ultra suede on the walls, everything was beige. I’d been promised a black office, not being a beige person, but my suite of offices were very nice with a kitchen, well-stocked huge fridge, outer office, conference table, etc. You can see a light box with slides behind me far left, and tons of photos and papers on my desk. I was always busy, being not only the PR Director but also the Creative Director for the Vidal Sassoon Salons in New York, Chicago, Beverly Hills, San Francisco and Toronto. I used to work in the office during the day, sometimes into the night, but most nights I wore my Creative Director hat and worked with the hairdressers on new ideas and projects in the New York Salon on Fifth Avenue. I usually arrived home late, unable to talk, just stare at my bedroom ceiling! The two years were highly productive, very stressful, the only time Vidal Sassoon hair trends were coming from the US and published worldwide, rather than the UK. You can see some of what I achieved by going to HairThen, Vidal Sassoon on this website.
