Gwyneth and Brad With the Same Hairstyle – 1997

Photo: Wenn/Sidewalk

Here’s a photo which could be a collector’s item and is part of hair history from way back when Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt were a hot ticket item. The style was new at the time, but looks today, right now.  Even more fabulous, they wore the same look to the New York Premiere of Brad Pitt’s movie “The Devil’s Own” at Cinema One on Third Avenue in 1997.

Gwyneth’s hair was cut and designed by the legendary John Sahag, Brad’s by Deedra Norris of the John Sahag Workshop, who also styled both superheads for this premiere. How did Deedra get to cut Brad Pitt’s hair? You”ll have to check the album on the website featuring movie stars and premieres, with anecdotes under many photos, to find out how a dream can come true.  click here then scroll along under the photos:

Short Soft Sahag Hair No Hard Edges – 1985

This short soft hair cut is so Sahag. It was done in 1985.  And is just as wonderful today as it was then.  It has no hard edges, and is all perfectly harmonious, as a short or any haircut should be. From a 12 page editorial in American Vogue, all with hair by the legendary John Sahag and, later in the year, Vogue published this look in black and white with more great Sahags in an article on the opening of his first John Sahag Workshop, in October of that year.  To see the Vogue article and more Sahag editorials, CLICK HERE

Rare Richard Avedon photo of Brooke Shields with curly hair, by John Sahag, John Sahag Workshop, 1988. No idea if this an Avedon collage or if someone unknown did it with three photos. I have a feeling it is a collage by Avedon, but I am not sure. For more of the lovely Brooke Shields, clck HERE

"Star Appeal" Cindy Crawford Vogue – 1987

Photo: Irving Penn

This is fun fabulous ’80s hair by the legendary John Sahag from a “Star Appeal” editorial in American Vogue featuring SuperModel Cindy Crawford wearing hairpieces placed for art – under a hat! (Sahag always wanted to “score” so hats and makeup stories didn’t faze him! He just came up with amazing ideas, like this.)   This was the first of the 4 page editorial photographed by Irvin Penn for “The Color Report” with makeup by Kevyn Aucoin, other pages featured more of Cindy, Linda Evangelista and Christy Turlington. John Sahag's Birthday, January 2 – 1985

Photo: © Lawrence Ivy for New York Magazine

January 2. We remember John Sahag’s birthday. The legendary John Sahag is missed. Sadly missed. There was no one like him.  His work has stood the test of time, not dated. He was tomorrow’s man, into the 21st century in the 20th. How easy it is to forget that he did this first, before anyone else. and that, and that too.

Here he is standing proudly with some of his work in a photo for a New York Magazine article on the launch of his first Workshop, late 1985. For more about John Sahag The Man, click this album

John Sahag Birthday Today - 2016

I like to remember John Sahag (1952-2005)  as in this photo I took of him when he beamed at me during a Wednesday Night Creative Evening with his “kids” in 1996.  June 15  2016 is eleven years since he left us, far too soon.  This collage is by Pascalain Gianello and you can see many more collages of Sahag, some by me, many by Gianello, the King of Collages, if you click HERE
