Lady Godiva Hair for the 21st Century – 2018

Photos: Richard Monsieurs for NAHA/Professional Beauty Association

Taking extensions as long as they can go, in two colors, beaded, Kate Becko of the Ammon Carver Studio created a Lady Godiva look for the 21st Century which resulted in her becoming a Finalist in the Avant Garde category of NAHA 2018. Of course, you could wear this idea with shorter hair and some clothes on, but I have to congratulate Kate for these looks. Love the beading, the photos, the creativity.  The winners for NAHA (the North American Hairstyling Awards) will be announced on July 29th in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort.

Short Hair Cuts With Style – 2018

Short Hair Cuts With Style – 2018

Photos: Richard Monsieurs for NAHA/Professional Beauty Association

Two short hair cuts with style for those with style, by Ammon Carver, Ammon Carver Studio, NYC, a Finalist in the Hair Cutting Category of the North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) for 2018. These photos got two pages in the June issue of Peluquerias Magazine.  The hair on the left is a short cut, finished with panache. But it can also be worn classic casual. The style on the right is for the avant-garde but it is versatile and can be styled less avant-garde!  It is easy to forget in this day of long hair with everyone looking the same, that a short hair cut can give someone personality – it can also be worn this way and that. And it should also be remembered that not everyone can cut short hair as well as they should! The Winners for NAHA will be announced in Las Vegas on July 29. Stay tuned …

Tiny Wires Help Make A Hair Beauty – 2018

Photo: Andrew O’Toole

“Tiny wires were used to structure the natural form and shape of hair which worked synergistically with warm tones and light to remind us of brighter days in the heart of darkness and winter,” said Silas Tsang, Blushes Salon in Ottowa, where the winters are long and dark. He calls this look “Invincible Summer,” and it is one of some great styles and photos Tsang entered in the Master Stylist of the Year Category for NAHA 2018. Winners announced on July 29 in Las Vegas. Stay tuned for more from this innovative hair talent later in the year.

Vivienne Mackinder, A NAHA Finalist - 2018

Photo: Roberto Ligresti

These two photos of five submitted for NAHA 2018 are by Vivienne Mackinder, HairDesignerTV.com, who was announced today by PBA as a Finalist in the Masters Hairstylist Of The Year Category. The hair was inspired by a Kaleidoscope of color and texture. “I wanted to create a fine art collection,” said Vivienne, “mixing bold shapes with movement and color, adding depth and drama.” Top talents who were winners in the Hairstylists of the Year Category and won it many times enter in this category. All the Winners from the 15 categories will be announced on July 29, at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.  Congratulations to all Finalists.  See who helped judge the Winners in the following blog.  And some thoughts on judging this event open to professionals in North America.

NAHA Finalist Announcement Today – 2018

NAHA Finalist Announcement Today - 2018

NAHA/PBA

The 2018 NAHA Finalist Announcement is today, April 29.  It will take place in Chicago, at the ABS show. Live at 4.45  pm CDT.   Lot of  excitement in the North American hair world today.   I helped judge the North American Hairstylists Awards for PBA again this year. For the third time.  Choosing the Finalists was not easy.  Most times, there was not much to choose between the five selected.  Often, an entry included two good and one not good at all.  Sometimes, one amazing photo and two not good.    All three or five entered in a category were not always great.  Some were in need of a good ruthless crop.   But some did get it and entered some amazing work – cohesive, creative, technically interesting as required, and newsworthy.   Those got my highest marks.  If everything was great too – the photography, the lighting,  the model, the model’s expression and the pose. However, I have noted my top choices do not always win!   Winners will be announced  July 29th, in Las Vegas.   Stay tuned …
