New album coming soon.  Avant-garde hair by the Australian whirlwind, Sharon Blain, one of the world’s top educators and hairdressers.  Innovation is at the  heart her skills and mindset.  The Sharon Blain Boot Camp courses enthrall as she gives them all over the world to those in the know. (She is coming to New York for a 3-day Workshop March 8 to 10, 2o17.)  Here is a hair mask inspired by an Alexander McQueen exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, part of the Twisted Aura Collection from her knock-out show for Intercoiffure’s Fall Atelier for 2016, held recently at the Waldorf Astoria in New York.   Stay tuned for the new album.  Meanwhile to see more inspiration from the show click HERE

New Album 4 Frida Kahlo Birthday Today – 2016

Self Portrait Frida Kahlo, 1940

Today, july 6 is the birthday of the Mexican cult artist Frida Kahlo (1907-1954.) Her extraordinary surreal paintings and self portraits with incredible hair arrangements, that one famous eyebrow, the faint mustache can be seen in a new album with many new images, just up and archived on my website. You can also read more of her story, who she was, what she did, how she survived and conquered her painful life, her bi-sexual love life. This self portrait (1940) is the black and white version of her original painting in color. I thought the headdress and hair so interesting, I used this image for an article I did in The Montreal Gazette on January 22, 1991 to help promite Frida Kahlo: Portrait of An Artist on PBS-TV. I’ve been a fan for a long time!   To see many more images, to read more, see some photographic interpretations of Frida Kahlo, a video, click HERE

New Sahag Album, Hair Supermodels – 70s/ 80s

New Sahag Album, Hair Supermodels – 70s/ 80s

Yet another new John Sahag album, just up. This one features mostly supermodels or superstars in editorials, mainly from the 70s and 80s. And most are covers and pages from all the Vogues, which was not planned, but time has revealed, with the help of Lori Bermani who worked from the heart to help research this great album, that Sahag did a lot of interesting hair for the Vogues.

From a hair history perspective, it is important to remember how much of tomorrow’s man John Sahag was. When we look at most of the work in this album today, it looks so now, but it was very new way back then and has stood the test of time. As can be seen with this Vogue Italia cover from 1984. The hair could be today.  For more great inspirational work by the legendary John Sahag in this album, click here:

New Album Up – Guy, My Man

New Album Up - Guy,My Man

Photo: Helen Oppenheim

Just put up a new album. Guy, my husband, over the years, from a 3 year old to now, often with me. He is one a kind, and a man of the world. Speaks French (his Mother tongue), Italian and English fluently, and also speaks other languages, like Spanish. He has an ear for languages.  Whichever country we travel to, he knows a few words. He even started to learn Japanese at one time, and Chinese. Even if he knows a few words, he speaks them perfectly. Unlike me! I have no ear for languages. His love over many moons has allowed me to do all I do, he always supported me, and we laugh a lot.  Here is Guy, pronounced the French way, at the Léger Museum, Biot, South of France. I have just put up a new album with photos of my Mother from Age 1 – 30. Click to see –  https://www.helenoppenheim.com/thisthat/those-close-2/   My Mother’s hair was marcel-waved, the dress was made of silver lamé and she made it herself. I still have some of the silver lamé.  My Father looks very elegant too.  And look at those beautiful flowers, also the art deco background of the photo by Boris.  They danced the music of “Always” and it was.
