CommentUnisex Big Curly Hair @ Apotts NYFW – 2020
Big curly hair is now unisex, trending for both sexes, and looks as good on him as on her, especially if red and the curls are controlled with the right hair care products, in this case by Oribe. The fashions at the Apotts Collection Fall/Winter 2020 Show designed by Aaron Potts, were “modern, artistic, useful clothes. infused with creativity and joy.” A theme of the collection was color/fabric blocking, both for silhouettes sleek and voluminous in fabrics that were familiar, fashions with a sense of ease. Love the coat, love the hair.

CommentOribe Passes Away At 62 – 2018
Sad news. The one and only Oribe Canales has passed away at the age of 62. I knew him way back when he had a salon in New York City, and before. More details to come. Meanwhile here is the Daily Mail story – Click
Here I am with Oribe in 2014, at the Waldorf Astoria, after an Intercoiffure AC event. And here is an original rare photo of one of his original ideas which I took in 1997 – He created drawn on kiss curls with a beaded sculpture decorating the back of the head for a NYFW show which took place in his salon, for Manolo.

WHY?
Why don’t more know how easy it is to cover up roots, regrowth, between salon visits when going grey or in need of a touch up? Many people are discovering new products with new technology that not only covers the grey, or whatever, but also make the hair feel as natural as their own hair. Something that didn’t happen with the cover-up products of yesteryear, when they made the hair feel somewhat sticky or there was residue of some kind. The best so far are powders which are stroked on. Easy peasy. Not messy. Of course, hairdressers and hair colorists with smarts know to recommend these products to clients to use between salon visits because there is often an emergency, or a client can’t get an appointment at the salon when needed desperately, or it is just too expensive to go every 3 weeks when 4 weeks makes more economic sense. These cover up products can give a client that much needed extra few days or even a week, Of course, they vanish with a shampoo but what a great stop gap they can make. Haircolorists who think they are doing themselves harm don’t really care about their clients and do themselves harm in the long run when they think these products will spoil their business. Salon owners who are smart actually don’t fight the new technology, the trend, and sell the product at their reception areas because they know there is a need and clients will buy them on the Internet or on Amazon if they don’t sell them! CommentEgyptian-Inspired Amazing Nails – 2016
CND Nails never cease to blow our minds. With over 600 combined hours of production behind them, their avant-garde art nails walked The Blond runway during New York Fashion Week for Summer 2016, a fab fun show designed by Philippe and David Blond. The highly sculptural amazing nail designs, each one distinctive, were the perfect accessory for The Blonds’ theatrical collection which was inspired by Cleopatra, the Spinx, Egyptology, Hieroglyphics, snake and crocodile skins, gold plated wings, a scarab beetle. All were concocted with unconventional materials – like feathers, foils, ribbons, chains, gems, jewels and stones. There was even a sarcophagus nail. (Don’t ask!) CND Co-founder and Style Director Jan Arnold said: “Royal golden tones ruled, antiqued and shimmering, with accents of blue turquoise, red and green.” Now these nail treasures would impress in the afterlife! There were draped headdresses, hair, sometimes à la Cleopatra, but blonde, was by Oribe Hair Care, lead hairstylist Kien Hoang, Egyptian-inspired make up using lots of golds shimmered on tan skin was by Kabuki for Mac and featured a gold chrome appliqué under the eyes. This show was a Wow. Stay tuned for more photos on my Facebook Biz Buzz …

CommentLoose, Sensuous Hair Prepped with Tulle – 2016
The hair by WorldGreat Peter Gray at the Badgley Mischka Spring 2016 New York Fashion Week Show was loose and sensual with some texture at the ends. Peter Gray prepped it during the long wait backstage before the show with charmingly photographic tulle tied at the neck, ending a big bow, to keep it in place. For more on this lovely show with many red carpet gowns and some great jewelry, all inspired by 1950s sensual ladies from Buenos Aires, click HERE
