Crimped, Innovative Hair At #NYFW Fall – 2002
I am very proud of this photo I took backstage at the Cynthia Steffe New York Fashion Week Show for Fall 2002. This one photo got a full page in Peluquerias Magazine. Had I not been given the privilege of being able to stay backstage through the show, and to be able to photograph from a good position, just as models were going onstage, with hair finished, not half-finished, I’d never have got this shot. Unfortunately, not enough hairdressers care to arrange this for me! But wait, this was arranged by the PR, People’s Revolution!! I love the hair, crimped, innovative, interesting, not just a ponytail (!) by Lauren-D, Privé Salon (soon to be in the news – stay tuned.) For more #NYFW hair, go to Fashion Week on this website.

The $Million Jeans With Fernando Romero – 1980
Here is Fernando Romero, President of Vidal Sassoon Salons USA and Canada onstage with the Vidal Sassoon Million Dollar Jeans in Barcelona, Spain, during a hair show we did in front of 2,000 people at the Palacio de Congressos for the annual Luis Llongueras Journadas, November 1980.
You can just see the Vidal Sassoon Logo made of real diamonds by De Beers in this photo. One day I will scan and put up some more photos from this show for which we all worked so hard, we almost missed seeing the Gaudis. For more on the jeans as first presented at the Canadian Launch with the Vidal Sassoon hair care products, click HERE

CommentMemories. Diana Vreeland Letter – 1983
Memories. A letter to treasure. Forever. From Diana Vreeland, famous for her years at Harper’s Bazaar, as Editor in Chief at Vogue, the 12 extraordinary exhibitions she consulted on for Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute, her wit, her often outrageous quotes and much more.
Diana Vreeland, also a classy lady, sent me this letter in 1983 after I had devoted my whole column, about 8 pages, in Peluquerias Magazine to her 1982 exhibition, La Belle Epoque. I had researched visuals of the art period from 1890 to 1914 extensively, and asked various hairdressers to send me photos and sketches of updated versions of the hair looks for the era. Peluquerias did us all proud with a great layout design. But I never expected a letter like this from The Great One. What an honor.
CommentCOVER PELUQUERIAS MAGAZINE – JUNE 2014
Great updo and fashions for the June 2014 Peluquerias Magazine. The hair here, by Raffel Pages of Barcelona, Spain, is different, not copying anyone, and wearable at the same time. Ah, if only more hairdressers would work out how to do this! Fab feather fashions.
How to do it. Long hair was made into a small tail at the crown, with the hair pulled very tight. Foam was used for padding at the top which was scrolled into a horizontal loop held in the center, which was then sprayed.

CommentZippy Zipped Hair Idea – 2014
The 511th issue of Peluquerias Magazine, published in Barcelona, Spain, featured some great zippy hair with zips, by SK Style of Barcelona. Totally unique. First, the whole head was divided in two areas and colored in different shades. Curtains of hair were zipped into place, then all the hair from the top of the head was combed downwards and cut to shape following the line set by the zips. For more Peluquerias covers, click:

CommentAntonio Lopez – 1980
New album, just up. I love love love this Antonio Lopez illustration for a Nihon, Vogue, Japan cover, Spring/Summer 1980. Love the hair, the face, the illustration.
Antonio Lopez (1943 – 1987) was a major American fashion illustrator who was very into hair and art. There had been no one like him before, and there has been no one like him since.
I did my first Peluquerias Magazine column on him, in 1982, several pages, each illustration a separate page from the book, “Antonio’s Girls” (pub by Congreve, text by Christopher Hemphill) – the girls being Pat Cleveland, Grace Jones, Tina Chow, Jessica Lange, Jerry Hall and more.
My heart still goes –flutter when I look at his beautiful illustrations, They maybe retro now, but they look very modern and still inspire me.
