Grecian Bandeau
Sassooning for Evening
The perfect hair accessory for black or any HighHair is a Grecian Bandeau
wrapped around the head at the hairline.
This Grecian Bandeau is made of opalescent cellophane sprayed on plastic.
The 2 ends stand free form from the head, like a scarf in motion. (Avram
who made the bandeau (and the flowers) gave detailed
instructions how to make the bandeau and if anyone is interested, I can post them.)

Illusion
Sassooning for Evening
Sassooning for Evening was a totally new direction for Vidal Sassoon since
it involved styling and hair accessories and more than just a cut.
Sassoon always specialized in haircuts, mostly geometric ones, that they didn’t style
because the style is cut into the cut.
Without Avram, Sassooning for Evening would not have been the Hair Art Collection
it was. He had a degree in Fine Arts from Boston University and used it to
make all the wonders you see in Sassooning for Evening, for both HighHair and
Soft Cubism.
In this photo, the illusion of HighHair, the height of style, was achieved by
pulling one’s own hair through the center of a matching false hair-covered
ornament placed high on top of the head, pinned to secure.
Avram who made the ornament as well as the cloud cube for the surreal/cloud
theme of the collection, gave detailed instructions how to do all this.
If interested, I can post his instructions
which included cutting a triangle from a plastic sheet with a jeweler’s saw.

Hair Half Up/Half Down
Sassooning for Evening
Love this. The hair and the photo.
For romantic, dreamy nights out, Graham Wren of Vidal Sassoon, NY presented two versions of HighHair, half up and half down.
There is no teasing. A rat or soft, lightweight wire form is molded into triangular shape 3″ at the highest point, and pinned inside the hair to give that height. Rats can be bought from five and dime stores, department or beauty supply stores, or they can be made.
Here’s how to do your own versions:
Left: Part hair ear to ear. Side part front hair. Comb back hair pageboy ends. Leaving out 1″ of hair all around the wave rest for a cloud-like effect by reversing curling iron for each wave.
(Today, this could also be done with a crimping machine.)
Pin in form. place waved hair back and up, like a French pleat, secure with pins. Now, wave and pull back the 1″ of front hair lay over the twists on both sides. Tuck ends in with a tail comb.
Right: Part hair ear to ear. Side part front hair. Pin from heavier side. Place and fold hair over form and French Twist hair back.

For dreamy nights out, this cloud-like HighHair vision by Avram, Vidal Sassoon, NY
was pure romance.
There is no teasing A rat or soft, lightweight form is pinned inside the crimped hair
on the heavier side to give that flattering, pretty height.

Here, 2 Lumilar triangles – 1 positive, 1 negative – both refracting light into exciting rays
and colors zoom through hair sleekly knotted asymmetrically on top.
Hair and Lumilar hair accessories, in many shapes and shades, were created by Avram, who
liked Lumilar “because it refracted the light, like a prism, and the effect could be…wonderful.”

Anecdote: The Soft Cubism campaign was very successful with the press. We made 98
newspapers, some full pages, major magazines, tv, radio, practically every
hair magazine in the world, often full pages per photo, with 23 pages in one
Japanese magazine.
